Meal Planning Success

Balancing cooking and homeschooling has been a challenge for me. Both take up alot of time and they compete for my most energized self. Neither one works out very well when I am tired :)
Therefore, finding a menu plan that works for my family was top priority for our new home. Alhumdulillah, we have had some success with our Taco Tuesday night which we have been very consistent with so far.

It's so nice knowing what we will eat everyday (with flexibility of course)... Plus it is easy to memorize.

Meatless Monday
Taco Tuesday
Kids Cook Wednesday
Jumu'ah Night Thursday
Fast Food Friday
Seafood Saturday

Do you need some ideas? Each week I have simple plug in for our Day/Theme. For example the 1st Tuesday of the Month is always Chicken Tacos/Burritos and the 2nd Tuesday is always Shrimp Tacos/Burritos. You can change up the style and spices, but knowing that Taco Tuesday is chicken tacos makes life so much easier.

Meatless Mondays~ Beans, Vegi Stir Fry, Salad, Vegi Pasta, Vegi Burger, Vegi & Lentil Soup.

Taco Tuesdays~ Beef, Shrimp, Tilapia, Chicken, Beans. Cut up fresh lettuce, tomatoes, and avocados not just to garnish, but for a healthier taco salad version or make rice for a burrito bowl.

Kids Cook Wednesdays~ Get your kids input: what do they want to learn how to cook. Combine cooking with Geography and cook a food from a different country. Or assign them a few recipes you want them to know before they leave home. Pass down a family recipe. Buy a fun Kids Cookbook.

Jumu'ah Night Thursdays~ Big meal of the week, Soul Foods, Lamb, Organic Whole Chicken, Salmon, Sit down with your family, pray, read Surah Kahf and prepare for Jumu'ah day.

Fast Food Fridays~ Who doesn't love Pizza and Hamburgers, you don't have to eat it everyday, but one day a week is great and gives your children something to look forward to. We also do Kabobs and Hot dogs some Fridays. Nothing goes better with these American foods than some Ice Cream or a Root Beer Float.

Seafood Saturdays~ My naturalpathic doctor said that we humans need 3-4 servings of fish a week. As fish are rich in Omega-3 oils. I don't come close to 3-4 servings, but I am trying and making sure Saturday is dedicated to fish helps. Salmon, lots of Salmon cooked in many different ways. Catfish, Trout, Herring & Tuna. Fish soups like Gumbo, lots of Gumbo with Crabs and Shrimp! Save your fish bones or Organic chicken bones to make broth for your soup. Don't forget the Old Bay Seasoning.
