Fieldtrip to Washington DC ~ Gardens

We love when Humble Dad works in Washington D.C. and we can go with him. The past couple of weeks, he has been working a couple of blocks from the US Congress Building and National Botanical Garden.

Hiking Patapsco~ Local Fave!

We love our Location, we are near wonderful Masjids and great State Parks.  We have plenty of halal-zabihah options in dining and grocery. We live within two hours of the Atlantic Ocean, Philadelphia and the Amish in Lancaster. We have great neighbors who bring us huge zucchinis from their garden. The neighborhood is diverse with many Muslims, African-American, Caucasians, Indo-Paks, Africans, East Asians, Middle-Easterners and the list goes on. We feel safe and secure in our neighborhood which is very important to us. The boy's best friends who are Muslim, half Moroccan- half Euro-American are also homeschooled live across the street. Baltimore, the Chesapeake Bay, Annapolis, Washington DC and all the surrounding areas have so much culture and history. This is just the perfect location for my family and an answer to my du'a or prayer.

InshaAllah, I want to do more focus on our "Local Fave" or our favorite places, not to make you move here, but to inspire you to find your own local fave!

This weekend we hiked our favorite local park: Patapsco State Park. Patapsco is a huge park that spans a large area of Maryland. I have shared different areas of this park before in the post: Park Quest that was done during the Spring season and Patapsco Valley & Rock State Parks that was done during the Summer season.

Well here are new pictures from the Fall Season taken on our hike with some friends.

Ibadah & Khitmah Checklist

This Ibadah& Khitmah Checklist was inspired by one of my wonderful teachers Anse Tamara at www.rabata.org .

I just completed her game Pilgrims at Home during the first 10 days of Dhu- l- Hijjah , it changed my perspective on what it means to be a Muslim in America and the nearness to Allah we can realize anywhere. We do not have to travel overseas to gain this nearness, but we do need to travel beyond our nafs towards our inward strength. The workout I went through, flexing my Ibadah muscles is not easy and can be harder than entering a gym for the first time to flex physical muscles. But the gain is better than any toned up abs, as one’s physical body is temporary and our spiritual body is everlasting.

The Hajj- 2013

We were not called to the House of Allah this year, the beautiful Ka'ba in Makkah for the Hajj. God Willing, one day soon, however Muslim women were given a great opportunity to experience a closeness to the pilgrims in a game called "Pilgrims at Home." The goal was to create habits of getting near to Allah by doing different acts of worship. The teams consisted of 5 women, there was an estimated of 400 total women playing from all over the world. . . and it was what I needed to create habits out of different Ibadah or acts of worship.
