Greenbrier & Gambrill

Finding Bigfoot in the Greenbrier Park Quest game was just as difficult as trying to find Big Foot for real. I was beginning to think the blue painted big foot we were supposed to find was just as mythical as the imaginary creature. Until that magic moment when we found a blue big foot by the boat shed. WOW! I won't say it was all Park Quest fault, we could blame our lack of desire to search very hard to the very attractive lake that stood before us. It was calling us in and we obliged.

The road from Greenbrier to Gambrill is a short ride, but it is beautiful ride. We stopped to look at the locals.

Greenbrier was so much fun that it was hard to leave and we made it to Gambrill kind of late. Ok, really late, but unlike Wye Island, we did not get an eerie feeling. The views from Gambrill are majestic and we were excited to go down the trail even if it was dark, we had our flashlight after all.

I love seeing my ideas taken, expanded, improved on out there on the web because we all know they did not originate with me, but the One who created me.

Although, we are humans with human needs, we are also spiritual beings not bounded by time or space. Our growth in this world is to recognize that our spiritual reality will be our only reality very soon.

Holding on to this world, our ego, our baggage and drama, our addictions, our hoards of stuff, our prejudices, our hatred and even our love for anything but the Creator is like holding on to greased razors that will cut and slip through your fingers simultaneously. ♥
(My humble facebook status)

I understand artist are sensitive because I am probably one of the most sensitive ones. I cry and get my feelings hurt super easily. I am human. Most people like me want to help the world, put right wrongs, and even the playing field. There are so many different ways we may do this, whether through charitable work,  creating beautiful art, or becoming a freedom fighter. Some of us were never really popular, yet through sharing our talents with others for free or for profit, we gained a new status that we may be unfamiliar with. And the once humble guy after swimming with the sharks has now become shark. He forgot that the ocean is vast and beautiful and that predators are only few and far between. He must remember that many animals in the ocean live a peaceful existence like dolphins whom also swim with the sharks and are unaffected by them. And even when they are the smaller fish whose fate it is to be eaten, they don't live out their days in fear, but keep on the way God has Created them to do. (Thanks Humble Dad) We can't let the world change our nature. We must remain loving, giving, and most of all humble. Our talent was given to us and can be taken away. We must remember Whom we truly are accountable to and why we do this. Let our work be for His Sake.

That being said, I would like more people to take advantage of the things I share, so when you share my stuff with others please link back to www.noorjanan.blogspot.com

Garden Recap for Spring/Summer 2012

This is our first year gardening with results, we produced alot of tomatoes, All Praises be to God, Alhumdulilah. We also had beans and a couple of strawberries. Our flowers did very well also. I was just surprised to see anything grow at all because I have the opposite of what they call a "green thumb".  Plus we took our Summer Road trip during the month on June, we just had to depend on Maryland doing what it does best: Rain. Although, I love playing (working) in the garden, I heavily depended on my Beloveds to water and care for it. Z Man was our main gardener, Thank you!!! Next Big A and Humble Dad remembered to water when the rest of us failed.

Another remarkable thing about our garden is our plot, it is a small piece of land under the stairs. But we worked it! We also did some container gardening, read the beginning of our gardening adventures here:

Our best Seeds came from Southern Exposure Seed Exchange

Our Tomato Cherokee Purple and Bush Bean Blue Lake grew and produced.

We also had another tomato plant that did well, however, I think that came from a seedling from H-Mart.

Tuckahoe & Wye Island

We loved playing disc golf at Tuckahoe State Park. I don't think my Beloveds realized how much  fun it would be because I heard complaining from the ones who usually don't complain about outings. (Of course the homebody will always complain if you take them away from home). But once we were there, they were all into it. I loved playing frisbee as a child so I was sure that I would like it, and the challenge of each Tee makes it that much more fun!

Tuckahoe State Park is near Wye Island. On the way to Wye Island, I was oohing and ahhing about the homes in that area. I ♥ architecture! .

However, once I got to Wye Island, I kept thinking Why oh Why am I here? It's late, they have you track through woods that does not have a marked trail. And with imaginations as large as mine and my children, it felt like we were entering a haunted woods. We were terrified, we were praying and making duas the whole time. When we finally made our way to the clearing or the edge of the island, where we could view another Island - it was nice, but going through the woods on the way back was just as horrifying. We will not do Wye Island without Humble Dad, if they have it on the park list next year

The Post of Eid Past

I always love seeing timelines of my Beloveds: how they have grown, facial features have changed, and personalities have developed. Eid Timelines are nice because I get to see how their interests have changed, what toys they liked back when compared to the present. Eid al Fitr is the celebration after the Ramadan 29-30 day fast. Eid al Adha is the celebration during the Hajj to Mecca when Prophet Abraham did not have to sacrifice his son and was able to sacrifice a small animal in his place.

EID AL FITR - DECEMBER 2002
Only J Man, Big A and S Man were born. I did lights and balloons this year.
I printed out signs and pictures, then I glued it on the box.

A Retreat with A View

One of my mom's favorite movies is E.M. Forster's "A Room with A View" Two quite famous British actresses, much younger than they are now starred in it: Maggie Smith and Helena Bonham Carter. I remember liking the movie many moons ago, when I was less aware and naive. However, I probably would not like it at present with a more conservative world view. Despite the fact, that I may not care for the Literature, the title is rather catchy. . . and besides, who wouldn't want a room with a view?

Ramadan for Children

As long as women have been fasting in more industrialized areas, I am sure the question of what do with our little ones have existed. A healthy child should be full of boundless energy and a well fed healthy child should have that much more energy. While her fasting mother, will be even more tired than she normally is, at least this fasting mother was. As I mentioned in my blog post "Ramadan for Intelligent People", although the younger children are not expected to fast from food and water. They are to watch what comes out of their mouth and what comes into their ears and mind in general, just as adults should. We already have a rule of no movies and Wii on the weekdays, so it wasn't that hard for my children to give up Movies and Wii for the whole month of Ramadan. I say this, just to say I didn't have television as an option to babysit my children during Ramadan.

I'm Fasting

One of my favorite blogs: A Crafty Arab was selling "I'm Fasting" buttons during Ramadan. I thought wouldn't it be great to make t-shirts that say "I'm Fasting". Michael's was having a sale on t-shirts 2 for $5, so it was on!

Curriculum 2012- 2013

I have made a plan for the 2012-2013 school, but I want to be honest and say that I will probably not stick to the plan very well. I like to live in the moment and no one knows what any moment will exactly bring. However, I do like to: what the Arabs say "tie your camel" or be prepared for whatever might come. Therefore, a detailed plan of the coming school year awaits you below.

Amazon Store

Now you can go to one place to see all the wonderful things we use in our homeschool. All of my printables are still free and always will be free, God Willing.

You don't need to buy anything from Amazon. However, if you do want to buy something that you have seen on Noor Janan Homeschool, the new store button on the far right of the title bar makes it easy.

Noor Janan Homeschool does not ship or sale anything, everything is sold through Amazon. We are just advertising the stuff that we really like and use :-)

Gingerbread Masjid

Every Ramadan we fill the air with smell of Gingerbread. The funny thing is I never made Gingerbread houses in my home as a Christian. Although, I love going to hotels and seeing all the Gingerbread displays at Christmas, it was never a family tradition in my home until I became Muslim.
