High School Graduation

This post has taken a long time for me to write because I didn't know where to begin. I have finally mustered the courage to start at the beginning. The beginning of my journey to my oldest son's graduation didnt begin with our Summer Road Trip. It began in the Spring of 1993, when I found out I was pregnant and I was only 17 years old. I was on a different kind of road trip then, I was on the road to self destruction. This road trip began at age 14 when I started cutting myself and culminated with this pregnancy. I was the poster child for teenage depression. I was a black girl, parents divorced when I was two, little contact with father, an only child, little connection with extended family, latch key kid, raised in predominantly white areas with no sense of identity, no strong religious foundation, etc, etc, etc. . . I just felt unloved, by God, my mother, father, cousins, friends, people, the world, so I did what most unloved people do, I went searching for love in all the wrong places.

Yellowstone

I didn't do an extensive research of Yellowstone, I did not plan it out, I just let it come naturally. Even my trusty Road Trip USA: Cross-Country Adventures on America's Two-Lane Highways  book did not give me a great deal of info on Yellowstone. Many things we found out through living it and this is a note that I wrote for a friend who asked.

Summer Road Trip ~ The Road There

Do you like this US State Map? This map is a part of a FREE downloadable US Geography Resource, learn more here.
MARYLAND
We started our trip with a visit to the Library the day before we hit the road. A friend gave me some excellent advise about keeping children occupied in the car: Books on CD. We rented many, however my Beloved's favorite was Jonathan Park: The Adventure Begins (Jonathan Park Radio Drama) a Christian Creationist Adventure Story. As we road the highway on our adventure West, the children in the story were also having similar adventures, it was awesome! Although, Muslims lay in the middle of the young Earth creation theory, we could appreciate the proof of God's Creation. Jonathon Park was a nice surprise, I just picked it out without reading what it was about, another nice surprise was a book on display in front of the Library: Road Trip USA: Cross-Country Adventures on America's Two-Lane Highways which became my bible for the Road trip. As Humble Dad drove most of the way there, I would fill this book up with sticky tabs of the places I wanted to visit. When I returned the book to the library, it was definitely tattered and loved. ♥

Patapsco Valley & Rocks State Parks

We are working through our Park Quest. We are learning so much, especially at Patapsco where we learned how to tie knots and pitch a shelter. The hikes are breathtaking especially at Rocks above the 190 foot rock outcrop.

At Patapsco they supplied a backpack full of items we would need on our hike.
