The Hijab ( head scarf) of Big A

Many people comment on our hijab (head scarf), most comments are very nice. In fact just recently, a little old women came up to me and told me how beautiful my scarf and skirt was. Children are very inquisitive and most of the questions directed at Big A are those out of curiosity. However, children are also direct and honest about their feelings and some comments made to Big A are more harsh in nature. I must say that I am very proud of my daughter and she has been quite eloquent in answering questions on hijab.

According to Islamic Scholars, young ladies are not required to wear the hijab until she reaches puberty. Big A chose to start wearing hers earlier at age 9 when she was on a gymnastic team and felt uncomfortable with the uniform. She realized she was changing and she decided she wanted to cover up. Interestingly, her gymnastic's coach informed me that many of the girls want to start wearing pants or shorts at that age and they have to force them not to. Although, she is still extremely flexible and skilled, unfortunately, she decided to quit the team because of their uniform requirement.

This post is dedicated to my daughter Big A, she inspires me. (Thanks Google)
